You can sponsor certain relatives to come to Canada if you’re at least 18 years old;
SPOUSAL SPONSORSHIP:
If you are a Permanent Resident of Canada or a Canadian citizen, you are eligible to sponsor your spouse to Canada. You will need to provide strong documentation with respect to the genuineness of your relationship. You can file an inland or overseas Spousal Sponsorship application. Depending on your circumstances, you should consider the differences of both applications so that you can determine which option best suits your circumstances.
COMMON LAW SPONSORSHIP:
If you have been living together in a conjugal relationship for at least one year in an ongoing 12-month period (you are allowed short absences for business travel or family reasons) then you may be eligible to sponsor your common law partner.
PARENTAL SPONSORSHIP:
If you want to sponsor your parents and grandparents, your first step is to check if you are eligible to become a sponsor. Submit the interest to sponsor form and you’re invited to submit a complete application, you can sponsor your parents and grandparents to become permanent residents of Canada.
If you do, you must:
- support them and their dependents financially
- make sure they don’t need social assistance from the government
If you want your parents or grandparents to visit you in Canada, you can apply for a super visa.
A super visa lets your parents or grandparents stay in Canada for up to 2 years at a time. It’s a multi-entry visa that provides multiple entries for a period up to 10 years.
